bibic has a mission to improve the lives of all children and young people with conditions affecting their physical, communication and learning abilities. These include Cerebral palsy, Down's syndrome, Autism, dyslexia, dyspraxia and many other genetic or neurological conditions.
Children and young people visit bibic with their family. Over a period of two days, a bibic Developmental therapist consults with the whole family and carries out an assessment resulting in a unique profile of the young person's strengths and areas of difficulty. An individual bibic programme is then devised based on the initial assessment and taught to the whole family so that it can be practised regularly at home within the family life and routines. The simple exercises are designed to address gaps in the child's development and to help them achieve their potential, whatever that may be. The family returns after 4 - 6 months, when the young person's progress is measured, celebrated, and new goals and exercises set.
Whilst bibic cannot perform miracles, we treat each child as the unique individual they are, and by focusing on the positive, we help them to improve and develop, often in ways their parents never thought possible. We provide a lifeline to children and families from all over the UK and in exceptional cases, from around the world. Our target group is families who have children with disabilities who are not receiving the practical help they so desperately need. 25% of the children who came to bibic last year had no diagnosis and therefore have no other organisation they can turn to for practical help and advice. Many of the children we see have complicated problems, with one condition often masking another (i.e. dual diagnosis). bibic is streets ahead in the service that we offer due to our unique way of looking at every child as the individual they are. We can therefore say with confidence that we change the life of every disabled child and family that we see.
